The end result of all this is a classical but not boring collection, in which they combine the most traditional concept with the latest range in styles, colours, fabrics… with no fear of going beyond the limits.
Purchased for £1150.00 this beautiful and classic style Gelen dress is comprised of three separate pieces (ideal if you are blessed 'up top' as I am!): fitted bodice, full high-waisted skirt and separate train. Material is a heavy satin in soft white, which has a light golden sheen to it, so is less stark than 'white'.
It was made to measure (at bust, waist and hips) and unaltered during pre-wedding fittings and so there is scope for basic alterations. I am a standard size 12 at the waist/hips and a 36D/size 14 on the bust as a guide to fit. It is a 'high waisted' skirt and so sits high up of the rib cage to allow a close and seamless fit with the bodice.
Bodice: fitted with internal boning, it has as zip fastening that then buttons over for secure fitting. A diamante trim accentuates the shape of the bodice and a diamante floral decoration gathers the front of the bodice into a flattering shape over the bust.
Skirt: the skirt has two layers: a full A-line style under layer, overlaid with a panel which sweeps over the front of the skirt creating beautiful flowing ruches which is a main feature of the dress.
Train: the train is fully detachable and fits securely onto the skirt inner above the waist (please see pictures) and integrates perfectly with the graceful folds of the multi-layered skirt. This was perfect for my large church wedding, where you wanted a train to give the dress 'presence' in a large space - whilst being able to remove it for the reception meant I didn't have to worry about it later in the day.
The beauty of the dress is in the tailoring and layers as the decoration on the dress itself is minimal (the diamante decoration on the bodice); it is a classic style and from that point of view feels timeless.
Dress is in excellent condition (it was cleaned the day after the wedding and has been safely packed since then). Price includes the additional underskirt hoop to provide added support and structure to the skirt.
