1. My image is too big. How can I get it to the right size?
The quickest and easiest way is to e-mail the image to us along with your username. We'll do the rest - usually within a few minutes of it arriving.

If you're keen on doing it yourself, make sure that the following steps are carried out in order:
1. reduce the dpi to 72
2. reduce the quality level to 84%
3. reduce the width to 400 pixels

The ideal image should be a 400 pixel wide JPG saved at 72 dpi. To achieve this, open the image of your dress in the image editing software on your PC and find out what resolution it is, i.e. how many dpi and what size it is in pixels. Set the dpi settings to 72 and save the image. Then set the size of the image to 400 pixels wide. Save the image in .jpg format and upload it onto the website.

2. How do I buy an advert?
  1. Simply follow this link in the UK [click here] or this link in the USA [click here] and choose your Advert.
2. When you buy the advert, choose a password and a username (your e-mail address will be your user name) at the checkout.

3. What other costs are involved?
As far as The Dressmarket is concerned - none.
Unlike some other sites, we don't ask for a percentage of your dress sale as commission.

Why should we - would you pay a commission to your newspaper if you sold it through them? After all, it's your dress! The only fee you pay is the cost of the advert.

That's it.
4. How do I get my advert on line?
  1. Return to thedressmarket.net, and log in to your user area
2. Add your dress details and submit the advert.

5. What if I don't want to pay on-line?
In that case simply click here to submit an advert and send us payment by cheque. Our address is here

6. Why won't the site accept my login details?
The password field is case sensitive so check that your password has been entered correctly.

Another, much less frequent reason, is that there has been a delay in the e-mail being sent from the payment provider (Worldpay or Paypal). In this case, give us a call or send an e-mail and we'll sort it out usually in a matter of minutes.

7. I've paid with paypal but haven't received my log-in details.
Unlike the credit card payment option, the Paypal option isn't fully automated and advert accounts have to be created manually. This may result in a delay of between a few minutes or a few hours depending on the time of day or night.

8. I'm still not sure about what to do with my images.
In that case, don't worry. Simply e-mail the images to us and we'll put them on for you.

9. How do I make my advert look good?
  1. Don't use capital letters throughout. An advert which contains only capital letters is very hard to read.
2. Give a good description of the dress to accompany the photo.

10. What's the best way to make sure that my dress will sell?

The first - and possibly most difficult- thing to do is to put yourself in the shoes of the buyer and set the selling price at a price that's likely to attract buyers.
Your dress is probably much cherished and loved, you'll have spent a lot of time and effort looking for it and a lot of money on buying it .... it's extremely valuable - to you.

Cast your mind back, though. When you were looking for a dress would you have paid what you're asking for it?- Price the dress at a level you yourself would be willing to pay for it if it wasn't yours.

11. How do potential buyers contact me?
Buyers will use the "contact seller" link to send a message to you. This message comes first to a holding pen, where we check it to make sure that it's not from a scammer. Once we are sure it's genuine, the enquiry is forwarded to you and you can then deal directly with the buyer.

12. What do I do when I sell my dress?
You can either log back in and click the delete advert button or drop us a line to let us know you've sold your dress and we'll stop you getting any more e-mails.
